Phase 2: Your Citizenship Application
Every successful application is built on careful preparation. We manage the documents, legalizations and translations required, guiding you through every detail and ensuring your complete Croatian citizenship application is prepared with precision and care.

Who is Phase 2 for?
Phase 2 is for those who have established their Croatian ancestry and are ready to prepare a formal application for Croatian citizenship. To begin this phase with Salona, you will need an official Croatian birth record for your ancestor, whether obtained through our Phase 1 genealogical research or independently.
What does it mean to apply for Croatian citizenship?
Citizenship by descent is not granted automatically simply because you have Croatian ancestry. You must formally apply for Croatian citizenship, with your application and supporting documentation submitted in person through the relevant Croatian Embassy or Consulate. Your application is then considered and processed by the Croatian authorities as part of the naturalization process.
Salona’s role in Phase 2 is to help you prepare the strongest and most complete application possible. We carefully bring together and review the required documentation, translations, forms and supporting materials before submission, with the aim of minimizing missing information or inconsistencies that could lead to additional requests or unnecessary back-and-forth with the Croatian authorities during processing.

Questions about your application
What if the documents for my Croatian citizenship application contain different spellings, dates, or places of birth?
Small differences in spellings, dates, or birthplaces are common when working with older family records. The spelling of a last name may vary in different forms, a date may have been recorded differently, or a place may be listed under an older name.
For Croatian citizenship by descent, the goal is to make sure the records still tell one clear and consistent family story. Depending on the discrepancy, additional documentation or an explanation may be needed to connect the records and show that they refer to the same person. Addressing these details before submission helps present the family line as clearly as possible.
How recent do my documents need to be for a Croatian citizenship application?
The acceptable age of a document can depend on the type of record and the authority reviewing the application. Some documents may need to be recently issued, while others can remain valid for much longer.
A quick review while preparing the application can help make sure each document is up to date and ready to be submitted. Salona Consulting can conduct a full check of all documents as part of the application preparation process and advise on validity.
What can I do to avoid delays in my Croatian citizenship application?
A carefully prepared Croatian citizenship application can help reduce delays caused by missing documents, inconsistent information, incorrect certifications, or unanswered discrepancies.
Names, dates, places of birth, family relationships, translations, and supporting records should work together clearly across the application. When differences appear between older and newer documents, it is better to identify and address them during preparation rather than leave them unexplained.
It is also important to keep personal and contact information current after submission. If an address, legal name, or other relevant detail changes while the application is being reviewed, the authority handling the case should be informed.
The final processing time remains with the Croatian authorities, but good preparation can help reduce avoidable complications along the way.
What are the most common issues that delay self-prepared Croatian citizenship applications?
Delays often come from small details that are easy to overlook, such as missing documents, inconsistencies between names or dates, incorrect certifications, or information that is not presented clearly.
A self-prepared application can also become more complicated when older records, name changes, translations, or documents from several countries are involved. Reviewing the full application before submission helps make sure the records support each other, any discrepancies are addressed, and the file is as clear and complete as possible for the Croatian authorities.
Where do I need to apply for Croatian citizenship?
Applicants living outside Croatia need to submit their citizenship applications at embassy or consulate of the Republic of Croatia responsible for their jurisdiction.
Salona Consulting can help you prepare and organize the required forms, supporting documents, translations, and certifications before your appointment. We also explain what is being submitted and what to expect during the appointment, so you apply for citizenship well prepared and confident.
How can I track the progress of my Croatian citizenship application?
The Ministry of the Interior (MUP) does not currently offer an online tracking system for citizenship applications, so progress cannot be followed in real time. Official updates are generally communicated through the authority or diplomatic mission handling the case. During long periods of review, there may therefore be limited visible movement from the applicant’s perspective.
If Salona Consulting is supporting the case, we can help interpret correspondence when it arrives and explain what each communication means for the next stage of the process.
What happens if the Croatian authorities ask for additional documents after I apply?
A request for additional documents does not necessarily mean there is a serious issue with the citizenship application. Sometimes the authorities simply need another record or clarification before they can continue their review.
Salona Consulting can help interpret what is being requested, identify the missing piece, locate additional records where needed, and coordinate any translations, certifications, or supporting documentation required for the response. We then help bring the material together clearly so the applicant knows what is being provided and why it is relevant to the request.
Are government fees, translations, legalizations, and document costs included in Salona Consulting’s service fee?
Salona Consulting’s service fee covers the professional work included in the selected service. Additional third-party costs, such as government fees for document issuance, and legalization, shipping fees and other expenses, may be charged separately depending on what the case requires.
Any additional costs can be identified as the required documents and services become clear, so clients understand what to expect before those expenses are incurred.
